Skin and soft tissue infections Research Description

Staphylococcal infections, most commonly skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI), have been common among active duty military members for decades. The recent global emergence of community-associated methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) has had dramatic impact on military populations, particularly during close-quartered intense training periods. According to a 4-year (2002-2005) US Army Medical Surveillance Monthly Report, there were 181,311 diagnoses of SSTI with an overall incidence rate of 32.4 per 1,000 person years
